Tongwei Held 2010 Fishery Technology Forum

Themed with “Healthy Aquaculture and Sustainable Development of Fisheries”, Tongwei 2010 Fishery Technology Forum was held in Beijing on May, 18. Present at the forum were major aquaculture industry related leaders, entrepreneurs and well-known experts.  Co-organized by China Fisheries Association and Tongwei Co., Ltd., the forum was presided by Executive Vice President and Secretary-general of China Fisheries Association, Lin Yi, and Tongwei Co., Ltd. President Guan Yawei.

The forum focused and discussed on issues including Aquaculture Development Status in China and the World, Disease Prevention, and Fisheries Economy Development Trend. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Niu Dun addressed the opening ceremony, he mentioned, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently emphasized that the future of the world fishery is aquaculture, for the current fishing industry already reached its maximum. If China wants to become a great power in fisheries, the top priority is to enhance its technology competitiveness.

Later on, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and Tongwei Co., Ltd. Strategic Alliance Agreement was signed, which announced the cooperation between the State-level Science& Technology Research Institute and the industry- leading enterprise.

Board Chairman of Tongwei Group Mr. Liu Hanyuan made a keynote speech on “Healthy Aquaculture and Sustainable Development of Fisheries”. He gave a comprehensive analysis of China’s aquaculture development status. China’s aquaculture output has been on the tope of the world for 19 consecutive years. It is the only country whose aquaculture production exceeds fishing output. Its aquaculture has a great potential. Meanwhile, he also pointed out the existing problems in China’s aquaculture: low coverage of high-quality aquatic breeds, insufficient science and technology research, weak infrastructure, lack of investment, the need to change traditional aquaculture from scattered into intensive, scaled, standardized and industrialized aquaculture. In addition, Mr. Liu believes the sustainable development direction of China’s fishery is standardization and intensive breeding by means of bio-technology. It requires supporting technology of water quality improvement, high quality feed with the lowest pollution, establishment of disease forewarning system, industrialized farming and traceability system. Also at the forum, major aquaculture industry related leaders, entrepreneurs, well-known experts and scholars gave specific lectures on current fishery industry and the global economy situation.
